Nephi is known as the first protagonist from the Book of Mormon. His narrative in the Book of Mormon consists primarily of the story of his family leaving Jerusalem to live in the wilderness. Him and his family later sail from Jerusalem to the Promised Land, believed to be the American Continent around approximately 600 BC. When they arrive in the Promised Land Nephi becomes a king over the people, and the name Nephi eventually becomes a title for the future kings of the people named the Nephites.
